The Most Memorable Brawl

This Brawl took place in 2011 in the Cintas Center (Home of the Xavier Musketeers). The game had only 18.6 seconds left on the clock when Xavier's starting point guard Tu Holloway starting yelling at UC's bench. This brought UC's Ge'Lawn Guyn to comfront Tu leading to the two to start arguing which lead to Xavier's Dez Wells intervening and pushing Guyn to the ground. Once this happened UC's Yancy Gates threw the ball at Tu Holloway's head which started the bench clearing brawl. Xavier's Kenny Frease tried to break some players up when he got hit in the left eye by Gates causing Frease to fall to the ground. As Frease was on the ground he got his face stomped on in the same spot by UC's Cheikh Mbodj, leading to Frease crawling out of the crowd of players and coaches. Xavier's Mark Lyons and Landen Amos also took place in the fight as they threw some punches at the UC players. UC's Octavius Ellis also joined in the fight as him and Lyons threw back and forth punches. This brought Gates over to comfront Lyons as those two shared a few words before getting broken up by Xavier's assitant Aaron Williams. The referees decided to end the game with 9.4 seconds left. Xavier's Kenny Frease was the one player to get the worst of the fight as ssen in the picture to the left. This brawl lead to the National spot light as the NCAA debated in keeping the rivalry around or not. This lead to the Xavier and UC officals to decided to move the game to the US Bank Arena and change the name of the rivalry to the Crosstown Classic. They did this from 2012 to 2014. Then on May 12, 2014 the two schools announced a 10 year agreement of the rivalry to continue alternating between the two campuses and changing the name back to the Crosstown Shootout.
